In the summer of 2023, I was commissioned by velvenoir to craft a mural for the Crowne Plaza Amsterdam South hotel. This mural pays homage to the timeless legacy of George Gershwin, seamlessly weaving together the essence of New York City, the captivating world of Jazz, and the artistic movements that defined the 1920s. Drawing inspiration from Cubism and the surrealism of the era, the mural portrays Gershwin at the piano, set against a dreamlike, abstracted New York skyline. The color palette of black, white, and gold, reminiscent of the Art Deco movement, adds an air of elegance and sophistication to the composition. These hues, echoing the artistry of the early 20th century, symbolize the cultural richness and opulence of the era. Situated within the Crowne Plaza Amsterdam South, which is located on Gerschwinlaan, the mural establishes a clear connection to the spirit of New York, Gershwin himself, and the vibrant energy of his time.
